My Journey From Orphan to Social Media Emerging Star – This is Just The Beginning!
The first chapters of my story play in my mind like a horror movie. There are so many layers and so much to tell, I am literally planning on writing a book that I hope will inspire others. Suffice it to say, my childhood was filled with abuse, abandonment, and trauma. I grew up in an orphanage and never received a full formal education. After leaving the orphanage, I moved from pillar to post, numbing myself with alcohol, “weed”, body piercings, and tattoos; looking for hope in religion and partying, and finding myself in very dark places mentally.
Fast forward to today, I have my own Social Media Live Show that is an inspiration for people all across Tobago, Trinidad, and the diaspora. I have successfully completed a total of 29 social media management courses at the US-based Boot Camp Institute, and I have businesses seeking me out to promote their brands. Not to mention, I have created my own brand “Jay B – Just Bloom” that I will be officially launching very soon.
There are many people along the way that helped me keep moving forward in life - from my maternal grandmother who loved me deeply to my childhood neighbours who fed and clothed me, to political representatives in Tobago who gave me a helping hand when I moved to the island to find refuge from my pain. And most recently it is The Pride of Tobago Foundation and their Founders who have played the largest role in my blooming into a confident and successful professional in the making. They provided the resources and training I needed to pursue a career in the thing I love the most, which is social media. They helped me start and produce my weekly “Live with Jay B” social media show. And, most importantly, they give me the daily encouragement and support to stay the course and pursue my dreams.
To keep it real, I am still a diamond in the rough. There is much work left to be done to refine and polish me into the most complete and successful human that I now know I am destined to become. Years of neglect have left me in need of not just a lot of resources, education, and mentorship, but also other basic costly needs like medical and dental care to compensate for what I did not receive growing up and to make me whole in terms of mind, body, and soul.
Thank you to The Pride of Tobago Foundation and its main sponsor, Catch The Wave Solutions, for the many blessings they have given to me. World, here I come!
